You’ve survived the unimaginable — cancer. Your journey and success should be celebrated. National Cancer Survivors Day happens every June. This day celebrates you and those who supported you. It’s also a good time to look at what you’re doing to stay healthy.
Make your health a priority
As a survivor, you may still face day-to-day challenges. Here are ways to take care of yourself:
- Maintain a healthy lifestyle by working out and eating right.
- Get the recommended cancer screenings.
- Have a care plan in place.
- Focus on your mental health.
Exercising after you are diagnosed has been linked to living longer. It also could lower the chances of certain types of cancer returning. Be sure to eat lots of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Avoid processed and fried foods.
Have a care plan in place
This is helpful so that you know when your follow-up appointments are. You’ve been through a lot, so you may be dealing with difficult emotions. Take the time to focus on you and maybe join a local support group.
